The Atlanta Braves announced this morning that they have optioned LHP Jared Shuster down to AAA Gwinnett after last night's start.
The #Braves today selected the contract of RHP Dereck Rodríguez to Atlanta after optioning LHP Jared Shuster to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game. To make room on the 40-man roster, Atlanta transferred LHP Dylan Lee to the 60-day injured list.

Shuster was knocked around by Miami last night, getting tagged for four runs in the first eleven pitches of the game and not making it into the 4th inning. It's his third straight ineffective start, and his season ERA now sits at 5.64.
Replacing Shuster is Dereck Rodríguez. The righty was claimed off of waivers from Minnesota in May and has been used only sparingly at the major league level, pitching in two games for Atlanta. In Gwinnett, Rodríguez is 1-4 with a 6.45 ERA this season in 44.2 innings, having been used as both an opener and a long reliever.
(Also, fun fact: He's the son of Hall of Fame catcher Ivan Rodriguez.)
To get Rodriguez on the 40-man roster, Dylan Lee was officially transferred to the 60-day injured list, ending his season. Lee missed multiple months while dealing with a shoulder issue and went through an extended rehab in AAA, but it wasn't enough and after he was recalled and pitched in game one of a doubleheader last week in Philly, he was sent down and then later placed on the injured-list instead.
With the move, Atlanta technically still has five starters with Kyle Wright's return to the active roster and now an extra long arm out of the bullpen to pair with Jackson Stephens.
