The Cleveland Browns will face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon, October 3, 2021 without the services of their 2021 first-round draft pick Greg Newsome II.

Newsome left the Bears game in the fourth quarter with a calf injury.

Browns fans were encouraged when he tweeted that he was okay.

It is just that he is not okay as quickly as we hoped.

Starting in his place will be Greedy Williams who knows a thing or two about injuries.

Williams suffered a nerve injury in his shoulder during the Browns 2020 training camp and never set foot on the field last season.

After the Browns drafted Newsome, many questioned if Williams still fit with the Browns roster.

In the name of depth, Williams definitely fits.

Williams and Newsome reportedly have a great relationship despite Newsome winning Williams’ job.

Coach Stefanski also has full faith in Williams.

About Williams, he said:

“He’s had limited reps in the games but I’ve seen him a lot in practice and I think he’s done a nice job … I think you just see a guy who’s continuing to get better.”

Newsome’s MRI

It is slightly unusual that Newsome had an MRI on Monday morning, but we do not have any information about it.

Coach Stefanski said on Monday that he would provide an update on Wednesday.

Coach Stefanski’s Wednesday update did not address the specifics of his injury; it just ruled him out of Sunday’s game.

All that we really know is that Newsome was seen in a walking boot at the end of Sunday’s game, according to ESPN’s Kimberly A. Martin.

Could It Be A Calf Strain?

Last season both Denzel Ward and Wyatt Teller dealt with calf injuries.

Their calf strains caused each to miss playing time.

It is possible Newsome has a similar injury.

Newsome’s MRI results should be known so we expect Coach Stefanski will answer more detailed questions about Newsome’s health in the media events leading up to the Vikings game.
