Patriots to interview former Panthers salary cap manager Samir Suleiman for executive job

The New England Patriots will interview former Carolina Panthers director of player negotiations and salary cap manager Samir Suleiman this week, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Suleiman will interview on Wednesday as the Patriots also continue a visit with Eagles director of scouting Brandon Hunt. The Patriots are trying to replace their head of football operations following a changing of the guard in Foxborough with the departure of Bill Belichick.

Suleiman previously worked for the Panthers from 2020 to 2023. He’s also had stints with the Steelers, L.A. Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars. His primary focus has been personnel and contracts.

The Patriots have been searching high and low for their new head of football ops. Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray, former Cardinals vice president of player personnel Quentin Harris and Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown all turned down interview requests.

Brandon Hunt, the Eagles’ director of scouting, previously interviewed for interviewed open GM jobs with the Raiders and the Steelers. He also interviewed for an assistant GM role with the Buffalo Bills.

New England scouting director Eliot Wolf, a former Packers exec, has been serving as de facto general manager in New England since Bill Belichick’s departure and is considered the favorite for the job. Wolf previously worked for the Packers from 2004-2017, before taking an assistant GM job with the Cleveland Browns from 2018-19. His father, Ron Wolf, was Green Bay’s general manager from 1991-2000.

Panthers part ways with two front office execs after Draft

The Carolina Panthers are parting ways with two members of the front office following the 2024 NFL Draft. According to reporter Joe Person, Director of Pro Scouting Rob Hanrahan and Assistant Director of Pro Scouting Tyler Ramsey are both making their exits ahead of the new season.

Prior to his firing, Hanrahan spent seven years with the Panthers. He joined the staff after spending 16 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, including the last two (2015-16) as the team’s director of pro personnel. Ramsey was with the Panthers for three seasons. He came on board after 12 seasons with the Seattle Seahawks where he worked with former GM Scott Fitterer. He primarily worked as an area scout for the Seahawks.

The Panthers are in a new era with general manager Dan Morgan and head coach Dave Canales. Morgan noted before the draft that there could be some movement on staff in the following days.
